Practices of Care

In 2024, we carried out a residency recruitment process co-organized with K.A.I.R. Košice – similar to AIR Wro, which originated from the European Capital of Culture celebrations, in this case in Slovakia in 2013. The Care Practices were aimed at artists who wanted to carry out activities dedicated to the theme of well-being and rest.

The proposed theme referred to how care is implemented, expressed, and institutionalized in various contexts. It covers a wide range of formal and informal practices that promote a holistic perspective and contribute to well-being, as well as support for individuals, communities, and the environment. Through the prism of contemporary art, the residency aimed to stimulate discussion about the values, ethics, and structures underlying various care practices and their interconnections.

In April 2024, Kinga Bartniak, a graphic designer and STEAM educator from Wrocław, left for a three-month residency in Košice. The artist studied the local trees, whose population is threatened by droughts and parasite attacks, focusing on botanical metaphors and their hidden meanings. You can read more about her project here.
