3Hz Concert | Agata Zemla, Kacperdhl + VJs Wiktoria Richel & Maria Mikołajewska

3HZ presents// 

After our summer travels, we’re back at Barbara’s for an evening where we’ll let ourselves drift a little. There’ll be synthesisers, guitar, electronic sounds, flute, unusual textures, plenty of space and sounds that don’t necessarily reveal themselves straight away.

This is the first concert as part of the 3HZ series, so it’s only fitting to kick things off with a bit of madness. Agata Zemla will present her own take on electronic and experimental music, building tension through subtle gestures and unconventional sounds, whilst leaving a little room for chance. kacperdhl will present an improvised live act. By sampling the instruments he uses on stage – numerous synthesisers, a guitar and an upright piano – in real time, he’ll prove that ambient electronic music doesn’t have to be pre-recorded, and that every performance becomes a unique experience. If you like Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker or Thom Yorke, then kacperdhl is the one for you.

And just so you don’t think we’re only looking in one direction – Wiktoria Richel and Maria Mikołajewska will kick off the visual aspect of the evening. The visuals will react to the music, and the music will probably do something unexpected with the visuals from time to time.

• Agata Zemla (b. 1994) – a composer, performer and biologist, working at the intersection of contemporary and electroacoustic music and research practices related to ecology, biology and psychoacoustics. She graduated with distinction in composition from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław; she also studied biology at the University of Wrocław and acousmatic composition in the class of Prof. Anette Vande Gorne. Her works have been performed by leading contemporary music ensembles and presented at festivals including the Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum and World Music Days. She also composes theatre music, sound installations and audiovisual projects.

• Wiktoria Richel and Maria Mikołajewska, multidisciplinary artists working in the fields of animation, graphic art and painting, affiliated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Together, they create live visualisations to accompany concerts, cultural events and club nights, including at the Polish Theatre in Wrocław, MiastoMOVIE and Serwis – Galeria Pracownia. In 2024, they took part in the Rencontres Audiovisuelles video mapping festival in Lille (France). In their VJ sets, they place particular emphasis on spatial arrangement, creating an atmosphere that harmonises with the soundscape, and the fluidity of the animation.

• kacperdhl is a multi-instrumentalist and music producer from Ostrów Wielkopolski. He took his first steps in the world of music production in 2016 and has been a regular fixture on the Wrocław scene for several years now, both through his solo work and collaborative projects. He views his live performances as a means of creating a space for active musical improvisation. By sampling the instruments he uses on stage – numerous synthesisers, a guitar and an upright piano – in real time, he demonstrates that electronic ambient music need not be merely played back, and that every performance becomes a unique experience. His music reflects the influence of artists such as Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker and Thom Yorke.
