Final Event of Marilyne Grimmer’s Residency

We invite you to the closing event of Marilyne Grimmer’s artist residency in Wrocław.

After four weeks of work, meetings, and observations, the artist invites you to a presentation summarizing her residency, which focused on the Korean community in Wrocław.

The project began with an attempt to examine the daily life, relationships, and experiences of the Korean community in the city. During her residency, the artist conducted interviews and recorded her observations, which became a tool for documenting, interpreting, and organizing the individual stories she encountered.

Alongside this research, the artist became interested in the connections between Polish and Korean folk arts, in particular Polish wycinanki and Korean minhwa, and in how these different traditions can meet and enter into dialogue through her artistic practice.

During the closing event, the artist will discuss the course of her work and present selected results of her research. Photographic and collage notes will recount her encounter with Wrocław and the subject matter—what she was able to see, learn, and record, but also what remained beyond the scope of the project.

There will also be a critical reflection on the creative process itself, on the difficulties associated with carrying out the project, the limitations imposed by the duration of the residency, building relationships, and the attempt to capture the community’s experiences through artistic means of expression.
