“Waiting for Magic”: GRAND FINALE – fabric premiere and workshops

The final workshop of Oscar Andersson’s “Waiting for Magic” project, hosted by the Wrocław Institute of Culture, will take place on June 22 at 4 PM. We invite all craft enthusiasts, including those interested in patchwork and hand sewing, to join us at the celebration in the courtyard at Ruska 46. The event will kick off with the premiere of a unique textile artwork!
#1 Invitation to the premiere

We’ll begin by introducing Oscar Andersson, a visual artist, set designer, and illustrator from Stockholm. In June, he collaborated with a youth group from ATUT Bilingual Primary School at the Lower Silesian Public Library in Wrocław. Inspired by local legends of imaginary underwater creatures, he created a fabric piece featuring characters imagined by the group. This collaborative artwork will adorn the sky over Ruska 46! The patchwork was inspired by unique sculptures, stained glass, and mosaics with animal and mythological motifs found in the nearby pool on Teatralna Street. Additionally, Oscar was fascinated by the history of the Neptune fountain that once stood in Nowy Targ Square. You’ll see the image of this mythical god of waters, clouds, and rain at the center of the textile.

#2 Invitation to the Workshops

Right after the premiere, we invite you to the final workshop with Oscar. We’ll delve into the world of textile art, from individual designs to collaborative patchwork projects. We will explore the craft of combining fabrics with different patterns and textures. Participants will create and compose, engaging with the often-underappreciated material of fabric. We will learn techniques like applique, darning, and hand sewing, progressing to larger formats to produce a large-scale textile representing our collective effort!

Practical Information:
