Drawing exercises
Don’t bring your PE kit – all you need is a sheet of paper and something to draw with. At our monthly ‘Drawing Gym’ sessions, we exercise our muscles – but the creative ones. We have fun under the guidance of artists specialising in graphic design, illustration, comics and painting.
Drawing exercises are a creative form of training, but without any pressure or competition. Once a month, we meet in the Reception area to carry out a few drawing exercises in a shared space, suggested by a local artist. We start by learning about the creative inspirations and practices of the person setting the challenge, and then we pick up our pencils, felt-tip pens or crayons and have fun with lines. The tasks can be funny, scary or completely absurd. They’re sure to spark a chain of associations and introduce you to a few new techniques or perspectives related to the versatile discipline of drawing.
Sit amongst friends, strangers or on your own in a quieter corner – the informal nature of the event is designed to encourage conversation and help you get to know people with similar interests, whilst not forcing you to socialise.
Basic materials such as paper, pencils, felt-tip pens and coloured pencils will be available on the day, but if you have your own favourite, tried-and-tested tools – do bring them along!
