Meet the winners of Culture of Mobility 2026

A trip to a cast iron foundry conference in the US, a residency focused on exploring new technologies in organ music in Lübeck, Germany, and the preparation of an individual exhibition and graphic workshops in Valencia—these are just some of the projects by Wrocław-based artists who have received support under the Mobile Culture 2026 program. Check out what international initiatives they will be implementing in the coming months.

As representatives of the cultural community in Wrocław, you submitted a total of thirty three applications during the call for proposals, which ran from February 2 to March 2, sharing with us your plans for this year to implement your international initiatives supporting the development of your artistic careers and the promotion of our city and region. The submitted projects were diverse and often consulted with us in terms of content. From among them, the committee finally selected five mobility proposals.

Whose trips are we supporting this year?

Joanna Gruntkowska, a dancer and choreographer based in Wrocław, will take part in the Fluid System module of the Body-Mind Centering® certification program organized by Tessura in Belgium in July. The training is devoted to somatic work and embodied exploration of the body’s fluid system, constituting an important stage in the artist’s several-year certification process. The stay will also be an opportunity to meet with the international performing arts community in Brussels. The knowledge gained will be used to develop her choreographic practice and work on a new performance being prepared in Wrocław, as well as further workshop and educational activities.

Joanna Glinkowska, cultural studies scholar and art critic, will attend an international summer school devoted to contemporary trends in materialism, which will be held in Olympia, Greece, in August. During her week-long stay, she will participate in lectures and debates with philosophers and researchers from various countries, organized by the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Skopje and Arizona State University. The knowledge and international contacts she gains will serve to develop her curatorial and critical activities and her work with artists in Poland.

Maciej Michaluk and Jan Przegendza will take part in the org_art_lab program organized by the Musikhochschule in Lübeck at the turn of August and September. During their studio residency, the duo will focus on exploring new technologies in organ music, including MIDI organ control, computer composition, and the use of artificial intelligence in performance practice. The trip will be a continuation of the artists’ collaboration, which initiated the TransOrganic series presented in 2024 at the NFM in Wrocław. The residency will enable them to develop their interdisciplinary practice, deepen their technical and artistic knowledge, and exchange experiences with an international community of composers, organists, and new media specialists.

Maja Kozłowska will travel to the Western Conference on Cast Iron Art in the United States at the end of September and beginning of October. During her studio residency, the artist will deepen her knowledge of cast iron foundry, experimenting with techniques for creating molds and furnace designs. The trip will allow her to establish contacts with international sculptors and lecturers. The residency is a natural development of Kozłowska’s artistic practice, which combines sculpture, painting, and electronic media, and an opportunity to exchange experiences and deepen her technical knowledge in an international context.

Łucja Bańkowska will spend a week in Valencia in September, where she will collaborate with the Abyss artspace gallery. The artist will prepare a solo exhibition “10 things I do before 10 am”, presenting her explorations in the area of everyday life and messages in large graphic format. As part of the project, she will also conduct workshops on etching and chine collé techniques for local participants and take part in an exchange of experiences with the community of workshop graphic artists. The trip will allow Bańkowska to develop her technical and artistic skills, establish international contacts, and broaden her perspective on graphic design projects, while supporting the development of the ODBITKA festival in Wrocław, which she co-created.

Congratulations to the winners!
