Sixty years of Barbara’s spirit woven into a large-format fabric

The moment has come – the large-format fabric, created under the watchful eye of Olga Budzan and her workshop participants, will be permanently displayed in Barbara’s Meeting Room!

We invite you to join us on 29 October at 6 PM for a celebration, where, dressed in festive attire and in a champagne mood, we will be able to admire the results of the work of our resident and workshop participants.

This unique fabric is a true artistic story based on the aesthetics of the 1960s and 1970s. Neon lights, mosaics, retro typography and the specific atmosphere of the spiritual era, which has almost disappeared from the urban landscape, are now revived in woven forms. Every detail of the fabric is a testimony to times gone by, which still live on in our collective memory and aesthetic inspirations.

The author and guide of this project is Olga Budzan, an artist whose passion is exploring urban memory through various artistic media. It is thanks to her experience and intuition that the workshop participants were able to create a work that combines archival photographs, stories and emotions related to Barbara. Olga Budzan is carrying out this project as part of her artistic residency, which is part of the MagiC Carpets platform, co-financed by the Creative Europe programme.

“This project is a bit of a collage – old things intertwine with new ones, and I think this has created a very interesting effect. I wanted this fabric, as the final product, to become a shared story. I think my basic skill is the ability to create meeting spaces where people can simply sit down in a peaceful atmosphere, do what they like best, and create something unique.” – Olga Budzan, artist

The fabric was created on the basis of memories, archival photographs and stories collected during the campaign ‘I remember Barbara. A box of memories about the iconic bar’. Excerpts from letters, characteristic sayings, memories of flavours and places – all this has been woven into the story of Barbara, which for years was the heart of Wrocław’s cultural and culinary life. It is a work that not only decorates the space, but also connects successive generations.

The fabric exhibition is a unique culmination of the celebrations of Barbara’s 60th and 10th birthdays, which we have been celebrating since May this year. Join the celebration!
