Never Enough “Guides”!

Wrocław lives and breathes culture, as you can see in our operations. In May, you can read three issues of the “Wrocław Cultural Guide.” Today, we are presenting a new special issue featuring a detailed programme for the Long Night of Museums.

The idea for the initiative, now embedded in the European cultural landscape, was born in Berlin in the 1990s, and the first edition proved a remarkable success. Today, the Long Night of Museums is organised in hundreds of cities, including many Polish ones. On 16 May, Wrocław museums and galleries – but not only, as there are more cultural institutions – welcome everyone to the 17th edition. The “Wrocław Cultural Guide” will take you through the events for the fourth time.

In our special issue for the Long Night of Museums, you can find a detailed programme of the events scheduled for this unique night. It is a perfect opportunity not only to see exhibitions, participate in guided tours, workshops, and lectures, but also to listen to performative readings and watch films. All the events are free, but you need to sign up for some.

Spring is also an intense time for documentary film fans: from 8 to 17 May, the Lower Silesian Film Centre welcomes everyone to the 23rd edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival. You can read an article about the cinema for every mood in the April-May issue. In the same issue, there is something for enthusiasts of literature and theatre – you can read an interview with director of Wrocław Literature House Katarzyna Janusik, who talks about the 9th Silesius International Poetry Festival (14-19 May) as well as an interview with Maria Wojtyszko and Jakub Krofta, who talk about the programme of the 8th Showcase of the New Theatre for Children, beginning on 29 May.

Do not forget about the special issue about the 10th anniversary of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016. This unique occasion is a reason to reflect on whether and how culture has changed in our city. We scrutinise particular fields, consider the ECoC effect and embark on a journey through Lower Silesian festivals and venues.
