The 15th anniversary edition of the European Night of Literature is coming up in August

Our annual celebration of readers has reached a milestone anniversary. This year, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 15th anniversary edition of the European Night of Literature!
On 22 August, we’ll be setting out on a journey through the books selected by Filip Zawada. The theme of our meeting will be ‘Community — how to find what was never lost’. The theme proposed by our curator is not only the central theme of the books that will feature in the programme for the upcoming European Night of Literature, but it also fits perfectly with the spirit of the event, during which we listen and stroll together through Wrocław. During the last edition alone, our audience numbered over 11,000 people.
The format of our event offers a shared experience of literature, the atmosphere and significance of which are highlighted by Filip Zawada:
‘It is listened to with many pairs of ears, and in shared feelings. Once the reading is over, you can share your impressions with someone standing next to you, and sometimes the silence on the way home is enough to feel that others have experienced something similar to us. The festival’s format involves actors reading excerpts from texts to a wider audience. It’s impossible not to draw parallels with the stories of our grandparents, who used to read books aloud to the whole family. Reading became an act of uniting, a ritual of gathering and simply being together. That’s how bonds were formed.‘
of 138 readers have performed over the last 13 years. Together, we heard 135 books from 34 publishers. We visited as many as 134 unusual venues across 11 neighbourhoods in Wrocław. What’s more, 93 accompanying events awaited our audience — workshops, city games, themed walks around the city and much more.
This year, our statistics will grow by a further 10 voices, 10 books and 10 locations in Wrocław’s Borek neighbourhood. We’ll be revealing the first details very soon.
The 2026 European Night of Literature was co-funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Promotion of Culture Fund.
